New scientific article published

The LIFE URCA project team is delighted to announce the publication of a new scientific article on the management of invasive pond turtles.

Published in the journal NeoBiota, the study addresses a key issue: how different management strategies for Trachemys scripta, an invasive alien species, can affect the animals’ welfare.

The study involved 24 experts and analysed, using the Five Domains model, the effects of capture, transport, captivity and various control methods.

This work highlights the importance of integrating biodiversity conservation, management effectiveness and animal welfare, drawing on available scientific knowledge and making management decisions more transparent.

We are proud to share this important research finding
