In June and July, as part of the LIFE URCA PROEMYS project, we once again monitored the nesting activity of European pond turtles (Emys orbicularis) in the Ribniki v dolini Drage pri Igu Nature Reserve.
Each evening, we tracked six female turtles that had been equipped with radio transmitters two years ago. This allowed us to locate them on land while they were digging nests and laying eggs. We took great care not to disturb them during this sensitive process. Once the turtles had finished nesting, we protected the nests with metal mesh to prevent predation.
